Dr. Andrella's topic is, "When the War Raged On: Montana Territory, Native Nations, and the struggle over Reconstruction in the West." This presentation examines how Reconstruction was not merely a reaction to the Civil War, but a national project that engulfed both the South and West. From the vantage point of the Montana Territory and the Northwestern Great Plains, this study illuminates how the West perpetuated an enduring crisis over citizenship, sovereignty, and belonging.
