Join us at the Bucks County Civil War Museum and Library’s Saturday Speaker Series on October 28th, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The presentation, “Too Much for Human Endurance: The George Spangler Farm Hospitals and the Battle of Gettysburg'' will be presented by author Ron Kirkwood. Ron is retired from a 40 year career as an editor and writer for newspapers and magazines in Baltimore, Harrisburg, York and Wilkes-Barre. He was NFL editor for USA TODAY Sports Weekly and has won numerous state, regional and national writing and editing awards, including managing the 32 person copy desk in Harrisburg when it won the Pulitzer Prize in 2012. His critically acclaimed book “Too Much for Human Endurance” tells the story of the Spangler Farm Field Hospital during and after the Battle of Gettysburg. The Civil War story of Doylestown native and Civil War Veteran Dr. Frank Swartzlander briefly intersects with the story of Spangler. Presented by Doylestown Historical Society and the James-Lorah Memorial Home These are Free Events. Space is limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
